Se regó como polvora entre los compatriotas de aquí, la noticia de que la película venezolana HERMANO es la representante de Venezuela como aspirante a los premios de la Academia, los Oscars 2011, en el renglón de Mejor Película en Idioma Extranjero.

El anuncio lo hizo originalmente el propio director Marcel Rasquin a través de su cuenta de Twitter, por supuesto, debido a la velocidad de este medio, el Twitter de Venezolanos en Hollywood seguía regando la voz de la alegría de poder compartir tan grata noticia.

La opera prima del cineasta Marcel Rasquin, HERMANO, ha gustado muchísimo a quienes la han visto, y es pieza de orgullo para los mismos venezolanos que sienten que este filme llegará más lejos de lo que ha llegado.

Rasquin ha tenido mucha fe en este largometraje y le ha impresionado mucho ver como la gente sale conmovida depués de verla. El guión fue muy bien trabajado por muchos años, y narra la historia de dos hermanos de crianza, Daniel y Julio, a quienes se les presenta la oportunidad de cambiar sus vidas y salir de la pobreza, cuando un cazatalentos les invita a demostrar sus capacidades para el Caracas Fútbol Club.

La productora del cineasta francés Luc Besson ('Azul Profundo', 'Quinto Elemento') adquirió los derechos de distribución y venta del filme internacionalmente y los protagonistas centrales de HERMANO son Eliú Armas y Julio Benites.

The news spread like wildfire among Venezuelans living in L.A.: the Venezuelan feature "Hermano" ("Brother") will be that country's candidate for the Acadamy Awards in 2011, in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.

The announcement was originally made by Marcel Rasquin -the film's director- himself, through his Twitter account. Obviously, the twitter account of Venezolanos en Hollywood picked up his message right away, happy to spread such cheerful news.

"Hermano" recently won the First Prize at the Moscow Film Festival, besides garnering the Cricits' and Audience Awards. Its triumphant run continued also at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, where it earned the Audience Choice Award for best feature. Marcel Rasquin's directing debut has been very well liked and is a source of pride for many Venezuelans who feel this film will achieve even greater heights.

Rasquin has had much faith in this feature, and has been quite impressed to see how moved people are after seeing it. The script was carefully crafted through many years, and it tells the story of two  brothers, Daniel and Julio, who have the opportunity to change their lives and rise from poverty when a talent scout invites them to show their abilities for the Caracas Fútbol Club, a professional soccer team.

The production company owned by French filmmaker Luc Besson ("Deep Blue", "The Fifht Element") has acquired the international distribution and sale rights for the film. The main stars of "Hermano" are Eliú Armas and Julio Benites.
